Wedding Stationery Makeover: Part 2

Part 2 of the Wedding Stationery Makeover series is all about inspiration! (If you missed part 1, check it out here!)

Now, I was thinking I had this all ready to go for this blog post. I thought, “Oh I have Pinterest boards! This should be easy to look back on my inspiration!”

My Pinterest account has 5 boards dedicated to weddings, and as I looked through them, almost none of it was helpful. Sure, I posted things I liked or wanted, but it didn’t give a good picture of the mood we wanted for our wedding day, and it didn’t represent us as a couple. When I was planning our wedding, I didn’t really think through how I wanted people to feel or how we should represent us on our wedding day.

So I started over.

I have the luxury of having already planned our wedding and can look back on the day. Since I’m working backward a little bit, I looked back at our wedding pictures and found some of our wedding items to help me remember the feeling of that day. (Not that I forgot because I remember that day so clearly!)

Here are a few photos from our day and things I found from our wedding!

Some things from our wedding day! On the left is the hem on my dress, and my bouquet and veil are on the right. In the middle are our rings on a pineapple dish with my calligraphy holder and a pan of gold watercolor paint. I included the holder and the watercolor because they are my favorite shade of gold! (There are SO MANY shades of gold!)

This is just a perfect display of a part of my husband’s style: “James Bond” ish. Sitting in an Aston Martin (the car James Bond drives) with this perfect suit and bow tie. Classic. Timeless. LOVE IT. (Courtesy of Jenna Greenawalt Photography)

Another example of the timeless, classic feel we embrace. I loved the lace on my dress that brought the traditional side, but the open back embraced a little bit more of a modern touch. (Courtesy of Jenna Greenawalt Photography)

Our sweetheart table. Notice the pineapples, the gold runner, and the chairs. Fun story about the chairs: we weren’t supposed to have them! The venue had an event the next day that required those chairs, and they asked us if we wanted them since they had to bring them out of storage anyways. I died that we got them for our whole reception for free! (Courtesy of Jenna Greenawalt Photography)

Just taking this opportunity to share my favorite picture of my husband. ISN’T HE ADORABLE?! And also, notice the bowtie. (Courtesy of Jenna Greenawalt Photography)

What I took from the photos/items:

  • We are “classic” kind of people. Just classically simple and a little traditional. We both love things that are timeless and will stand the test of time.
  • We like a little modern minimalist style. It’s clean. It’s bright. It’s simple.
  • We like a little bit of fun. While we stuck to a mostly classic, timeless style, we added little bits of fun, like the pineapples and the candy bar we had! We try not to take life too seriously, and I think we showed that with those little touches.

Looking back, I also thought of what we really wanted people to feel from beginning to end. I landed on two things: we wanted them to celebrate and enjoy. As much as this was about us, we brought those people around us because we wanted to celebrate with them! They mean so much to us and have helped shape who we are as a couple that we wanted to say “thank you” to them in that celebration. We also wanted people to just enjoy, to have fun.

Those things are going to guide me in my design, along with the colors for the wedding – black, gold, and white.

Some design pieces I’m considering based off of the inspiration:

  • Spencerian calligraphy – I think I want to use a classic, traditional style of calligraphy and put a modern twist on the rest of the suite.
  • Custom wax seal for the invitation envelope – We had a wax seal on our envelopes (forgot to mention that – whoops!) and it was just a random “W” I found on Etsy. I’d love to design something that really goes with the style of the rest of the suite.
  • Black envelopes for the invitation – I think these could be so cool with some gold or white ink for addressing!
  • Keeping the acrylic table numbers – I loved these and will probably just change the style of the calligraphy that I used.
  • Gold foil letterpress invitations – Letterpress was always the dream, but again I had NO idea what I was doing!
  • Pineapple design somewhere on the save the date – I like it when save the dates have a fun element to them, but still tie in with the rest of the stationery. It’ll be something small and simple. We (mostly me, but I’ll say we) like pineapples because of the show Psych! It just so happens that pineapples become super popular in home decor and design around the time that we watched the show together for the first time, so we have pineapples all over our house!

There are still a couple things that I have no idea what I’m going to do with yet, like programs and adding other pieces of stationery, but I’m excited to start the beginning stages of the design phase!

Part 3 will showcase initial sketches and ideas for some of the pieces, and it will be coming soon. I’m so glad you’re joining me in this makeover! I haven’t even begun designing, and I’ve already had so much fun doing this!

With joy,

Jasmine
